Ordering Prints

If you’re reading this, you’re thinking about buying one of my prints. Thank you! There are a few things to consider before you place your order. The most imporant are the first, cropping and proof delay.

Cropping

Depending on the image and size of print you want, your photo may need to be cropped in checkout. A 4x6 shape image, for example, has a different aspect ratio than an 8x10 print. Once you’ve selected your photos for purchase you can easily crop the image yourself during the checkout process. Please see below for examples of the cropping process or see “How To Crop Your Photos For Printing” for detailed instructions.

This is what you'll see when you order a photo that needs to be cropped. You'll come to this screen during the check out process. It is important to make sure your photo is cropped, if neccessary, before you complete your order.
Original image formated for a 4x6 print. If ordering a 4x6 print, no cropping is needed.
The "Auto" option for this image if ordering an 8x10 print. See how the new crop is centered and it cuts off the girl's head a little bit?
By selecting "Adjust" you can manualy move the cropped portion of the image so her head is no longer cut off. Be sure to SAVE YOUR CROP.*

You can also select "None" and the image will be shrunk slightly to fit on the 8x10 page leaving a white border on the left and right of the image.

*When making your crop adjustment, as seen to the left, it is very important to click "Save Crop." If you simply click the image or the border it will take you back to the order page without saving your adjustment.

Your satisfaction with your prints is very important to me. If you’re unsure how to crop the prints yourself during check out or a particular print doesn’t crop very well to the size print you’re ordering, please contact me and I’ll be happy to custom crop the image for you (at no extra charge).

Proof Delay

Basically, when you place and order it is held before being sent to the lab so I can make any final adjustments and make sure the cropping is good. During checkout you'll read a message saying "The photographer has requested up to 6 business days of processing and printing time to get your order just right." It will not take that long! I get an email the moment you place an order and typically within 24 hours (usually a lot less) I will make sure that the photos are the best they can be before they go to the lab. You will get an email from the lab as soon as your orders are printed and shipped (this can be up to 48 hours after I submit the final order, but again, usually a lot less).

Custom Adjustments

As with cropping, I am more than happy to make custom adjustments to a photo. For example, if there is a color image you would prefer in black and white I can easily make that happen for you (at no extra charge). If you would like more complex adjustments, like making the picture black and white but leaving an element in color (like this or this), just contact me and tell me want you want. Depending on the complexity of adjustment, I may have to add a surcharge to the print.

Group Orders, Pay By Check, Local Pickup

The company that hosts my website and handles all payments is SmugMug.com. The service they provide is excellent, but there are a few things they don’t allow me to offer through the website: local pickup, pay by check, and group orders.

Offering a local pickup and group orders will help save on shipping. I will try and offer this online in the near future, but for now please just contact me and we can work something out.

If you’re uncomfortable paying for prints online with your credit card and would prefer to pay by check, just contact me directly.
